ENCOURAGEMENT for May 13, 2003 T.O.D.A.Y.
Ministries When we hear the Word of God, that is when it is planted/sown into our "hearts". Jesus said that Satan would "immediately try to steal the Word" before it has time to take root and produce fruit...this is not "difficult to understand"... in fact, it is really so "simple"! Think about it this way, your heart is like a "garden", seeds are planted there, but then you have to "tend" to your garden, so that the "seeds" can grow and produce a harvest. Proverbs 3:24 tells us to "guard" our hearts with all diligence. That means that we need to "water" it and keep the weeds out and do what we need to do to prevent anything from coming in to "devour" the seeds. The best "pesticide" you can use is "obedience"... in other words, just "do what the Word tells you to do"! (Read James 1:22) We have to be "doers" of the Word, and not just "hearers" only! For example, Mark 4:19 tells us what the "weeds" are that will "choke the word, and make it unfruitful".... one of those "weeds" happens to be the "cares of this world"...well, James 5:7 tells us to "cast all of our cares on Jesus". So, if you give all of your cares to Jesus, then you have "protected the seed" in that area. However, there are other "weeds" that can cause problems, but God has provided a "weed be gone" solution for all of them...He even tells us how to "exterminate" the "devourer"!
